Welcome to the ACTCOSS Organisations Information Kit (the OIK). The OIK is designed to give community organisations in the ACT information about governing and managing community organisations in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. It contains a number of factsheets, sample policies and procedures and links to external web resources to assist organisations understand the requirements placed upon them and to improve their sustainability.The OIK is divided into multiple sections to help you find your way around and get the information you're looking for:
- The Boards section has information on the governance responsibilities of community sector boards and management committees. It contains information on the duties of Boards, the roles of Office Bearers, and assistance with how to help your Board make good decisions and operate smoothly.
- The Incorporation section has information on the different types of incorporated entities, the process of incorporation, and the responsibilites and duties you need to remember to ensure you are abiding by/maintaining your legal obligations at all times.
- The Standards section contains the downloadable sections of "Raising the Standard": The ACT Government's self-assessment tool for continuous improvement. Here you will also find the Cultural Awareness Self-Assessment Toolkit: Good practice standards for culturally appropriate community services. ACTCOSS is also funded to provide training and consultancy to help organisations use "Raising the Standard". - The Strategy section gives tools and information on how to think strategically, undertake strategic planning and position your organisation for the future.
- The Funding section has information about managing funding agreements, applying for funding and links to funding sources.
- The Staff section has information on human resources, managing staff and volunteers, and helping your ensure your systems and workplace is supportive to help you keep and develop your staff to reach their potential.
- The Human Rights section contains information on good human rights practice for your organisation, including ensuring that you are aware of the cultural and privacy aspects of your work.
- The Risk section gives information on risk management, emergency preparedness and insurance to help protect your organisation during difficult times, and point you to resources that can assist you through working with uncertainty.
