Listing on Giving Registers
A simple way to start engaging with potential philanthropic donors is to list your organisation on a register of recipient organisations. Some options include:
- Guidestar: Non-profit organisations can register for free. For profit organisations or individuals pay Guidestar to search for organisations to provide support to non-profits. Other free services for non profits include, donations on-line, link from GuideStar to your Web site, place classified ads and post news releases.
- Australian Charities Fund: encourages the development of Workplace Giving programs, and associated community involvement programs, within large employer organisations.
- Givewell: Free to register. Requirements to register include supplying a copy of your Annual Report with full audited financial statements. Further information from the web page:
"We urge each charity to supply an audited financial report every year to Givewell. Details are entered into the charity database and appear on profiles. Increasingly, companies, foundations and trusts are looking for greater transparency in the financial management of charities and for policy and processes of good governance. There is no legal requirement to meet commercial levels of annual financial reporting. We are sure that up to date, audited financial reports will assist you in applying for grants."
- Pathways Australia: pay to register. The newsletter is free. Membership varies depending on the income of your organisation. Membership benefits include a listing in the "Guide to Australia's Not-For-Profit Organisations", fortnightly funding alert, assistance to obtain bequests, a copy of the "Guide to Australian Company Giving", access to funding databases, management advice, discounted insurance coverage, vouchers to pay for other Pathways Australia services, attendance at seminars and training programs, subscription to quarterly management magazine, access to on-line management library, access to management consultancy services, advertising vacancies in weekly employment bulletin.
Sponsorship Guidelines
This section gives you a few example guidelines which can be useful for preparing pitches. Many smaller businesses do not have such well developed sponsorship arrangements but might welcome the opportunity to build community profile.
