Listing on Giving Registers
A simple way to start engaging with potential philanthropic donors is to list your organisation on a register of recipient organisations. Some options include:
- Pro Bono Australia, Guide to Giving: The Australian Directory of Not-for-Profit Organisations. Not-for-profit organisations can register online for free.
- Charities Aid Foundation: a not-for-profit organisation overing the whole spectrum of giving including: Workplace Payroll Giving Programs, Matched Giving Programs, Online Credit Card Giving Programs, Foundations, Scholarship and Grant Making Programs, Overseas Project Development and Management.
- Givewell: the first organisation in Australia to provide a comprehensive research service for informed giving.
- Pathways Australia: pay to register. The newsletter is free. Membership varies depending on the income of your organisation. Membership benefits include a listing in the "Guide to Australia's Not-For-Profit Organisations", fortnightly funding alert, assistance to obtain bequests, a copy of the "Guide to Australian Company Giving", access to funding databases, management advice, discounted insurance coverage, vouchers to pay for other Pathways Australia services, attendance at seminars and training programs, subscription to quarterly management magazine, access to on-line management library, access to management consultancy services, advertising vacancies in weekly employment bulletin.

This section gives you a few example guidelines which can be useful for preparing pitches. Many smaller businesses do not have such well developed sponsorship arrangements but might welcome the opportunity to build community profile.
