Part of Building Better Boards: The ACTCOSS Governance Workshop ProgramThis workshop provides an overview of a range of governance topics for anyone who would like an introduction to the roles, responsibilities and obligations of board members. It is an opportunity to ask questions and discuss common problems experienced by new board members.
The workshop will provide an overview of topics including financial responsibilities of board members, the relationship between governance and management and core documents and will introduce participants to the basic legal obligations relevant to community sector organisations.

Raising the Standard Training
A practical workshop to assist you to implement quality improvement in your organisationMany organisations have a requirement to use Raising the Standard as part of service funding agreements. This workshop is for people who want to learn about the service standards developed for ACT community organisations which meet ACT Government funding requirements, the self-assessment process and tools, how to use the standards in a quality improvement process, and how to write a quality improvement workplan.
Additionally this workshop will introduce the Cultural Awareness Self-Assessment Toolkit (CASAT), a set of good practice standards developed to assist community organisations improve the quality of their services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communities and to improve the organisation’s knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Aboriginal Culture, History & Heritage Training
Facilitated by Kerry Reed-Gilbert of Kuracca ConsultancyThis one-day workshop for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal workers provides participants with a general introduction into the recent history of Aboriginal people in Australia. It aims to improve knowledge of Aboriginal culture and dispossession, and explores ways organisations may improve their practice to respond to the needs of Aboriginal people.

1 Day Appreciation of Torres Strait Culture Awareness Training
Facilitated by Benny Hodges of Wis-Wei ConsultingThis one-day training for both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers aims to assist participants in developing a better understanding of the cultural perspectives of Torres Strait Islander people in Australia. The training will explore ways for organisations to develop a better understanding of some key issues such as culture, kinship and community. This training assists participants in developing and improving a range of cross-cultural communication skills.
