Cultivation is about creating conditions for growth and actually growing – focusing on both what’s important and what’s doable.
There have been countless articles and events focussed on developing a ‘thriving workforce’ and the importance of ‘nurturing people’. Everyone agrees engagement in ‘purposeful work’ is vital but there has been a distinct lack of effective and achievable strategies for growing and sustaining a values-based workforce. The question remains, how can we genuinely grow a new paradigm?
In his keynote, Gary Veale will encourage participants to consider a paradigm for our work that helps us to effectively increase staff engagement, foster the wellbeing of our workers and grow a workforce for the future.
This event will also include insights and practical advice from a panel of local community services leaders.
As a sector, we need to cultivate an effective workforce to deliver our stated vision – as outlined in the ACT Community Services Industry Strategy 2016-2026:
- Deliver quality services
- Create social value
- Place people at the centre of the system
- Be a trusted voice on the needs of communities.
A strong and sustainable workforce is vital for growing and improving community services that provide support with difficult circumstances, meet the needs of diverse people and communities, develop social and human capital and contribute to the economy. Through multiple and difficult changes in funding arrangements, policy priorities and expectations in the ACT Community Services Industry it is essential to ensure that we continue to attract, retain and provide career pathways for a values-driven workforce.
The reality is that we expect to continue to see strong imperatives for change and the pace of change is not expected to slow down. Workers need additional capabilities, and organisations need to find ways of sustaining their workforce within this changing landscape.
