The ACTCOSS submission to the 2016-17 ACT Budget argues that improving social inclusion and equality should be the core agenda guiding ACT Government spending decisions.
Housing, education and transport are identified as areas of high community need in the ACT. These areas intersect to create the opportunities and protections needed to establish the foundations for social mobility and guard against economic and social exclusion.
In addition, critical gaps in the social safety net in the ACT need to be addressed, providing access to resources and services that reduce vulnerability and prevent escalation of needs. As one of the most prosperous jurisdictions in the nation, the ACT ought to be able to provide this minimum safety net to all residents.
The submission provides extensive evidence to support 50 brief recommendations and six detailed recommendations.
