Belconnen - A Village for Every Child is looking for a dynamic part-time Communications Officer to join the Backbone team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for change and wants to see the system working better to support young children and their families to have the best start in life.

A Village for Every Child (Village) believe by improving collaboration and committing to community engagement we will ensure that all children in Belconnen are physically healthy, socially and emotionally strong and ready to engage fully in learning and life.

Village wants to bring community together around the issue of improving education and life outcomes for children. We are using the collective impact approach so that key stakeholders in the community can work collaboratively to achieve change in this complex social problem.

The Connected Beginnings Program within the broader Village initiative has a specific focus on addressing the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families by determining unique and community-owned goals and strategies to connect families to support services and improve the ability of children to achieve a positive transition to school.

The Role

The Communications Officer will be responsible for preparing, co-ordinating and disseminating a range of communications to external and internal audiences. The Communications Officer will work closely with the Administration and Communications Officer and the rest of the Village Backbone team to ensure that the work of Village is being conveyed meaningfully to a broad range of stakeholders across multiple mediums.

The position will support and contribute to A Village for Every Child’s strategic direction and underpinning strategic plans over time.

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications in Marketing and Communications or equivalent, including relevant experience.
  • Cultural Awareness Training
  • Sound understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues, knowledge and culture, and proven ability to apply this practice.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to multi-task with demonstrated experience in working as a valuable part of a team.
  • Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Ability to generate concise and accurate reports, briefing papers and other documentation.
  • Familiarity with the use of technology including appropriate computer software to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
  • Current C class driver’s license. 
  • Working with Vulnerable Persons card, police check and driver’s licence, or capacity and willingness to get them at your own expense
