ACT Nannies Group

The ACT Nannies Group provides a safe environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander grandmothers can come together once a week and share stories while providing emotional and spiritual support to each other in a peer setting. The gatherings also provide the opportunity for enhancing personal growth and knowledge of each member in areas affecting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in the ACT.

Guest speakers are invited to the meetings to share information about services available in the ACT and how to access them. This also provides Nannies with the opportunity to identify gaps in service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Islander families and to provide input towards improving services.

The group operates on in-kind donations from supporting organisations. The ACTCOSS Gulanga Program and Burrunju Aboriginal Corporation organise and facilitate the meetings, and YWCA Mura Lanyon Youth and Community Centre provides the venue and catering.

Meetings: The Nannies meet weekly.

Membership: This group is open to grandmothers of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

Join: If you meet the criteria above, please contact Meg Huddleston at [email protected] or contact the ACTCOSS Gulanga Program on 02 6202 7200.
